Pitch is one of main parameters when you select any LED video wall (screen).
'
Pitch P2.5' means the LED screen has 2.5 mm
distance between each pixel (dot) center.
Less pitch value = less distance between pixels centers = more pixels on a screen = more density of pixels on same area =
better picture quality.
And vice versa: higher pitch value (e.g., P3.9, P5 etc) leads to bigger distance between pixels centers on a screen (each 3.9 or 5 mm etc), and you may start to see each pixel separately, as well black lines between them, while you are standing at a certain close distance from a screen.
Therefore, when you
select a LED video screen type you
need to consider viewing distance to a screen in a way "
closer viewers will stand to a screen on event - smaller pitch must be selected".
Here below are approximate viewing distances recommendations
for each pitch
selection:
Pitch | Distance (minimum to optimum) from eyes\camera to LED screenP2.5 | from 2 to 4 metersP2.9 | from 2.5 to 5 metersP3.9 | from 3 to 6 metersP4.8 | from 4 to 9 metersAs per the figures above,
for events with
small viewing distances between viewers and screens we always recommend
small LED pitch P2.5 what ensures
high quality of played video\content, even when you take photos or videos of content on a screen. For
events with
bigger viewing distance (
3 meters and more), LED screen with
P3.9 pitch is a
good option and would be cheaper than P2.5
Another side of selection is a price. Here there are 2 points to be considered:
1) LED video screen with
smaller pitch has higher density of pixels on 1 m2, what
allows to fit a
video with a high resolution (e.g., HD quality video of 1920 x 1080 pixels)
within smaller physical dimensions of screen. In other words, LED screen with
bigger pitch requires more space to show same video resolution: approximately +50% space is required for P3.9 comparing to P2.5 to project same video resolution in pixels, if it is really required.
Accordingly, you might end up paying more if you select P3.9 LED screen rental trying to save money while if high resolution for you is more important than area occupied.
2) On another hand,
smaller pitch is naturally
more expensive per meter than bigger pitch due to more diodes quantity on each m2.
For instance P2.5 pitch screen has 60% higher resolution on 1 m2 than P3.9. Accordingly, LED screen rental with
P2.5 would cost +30% to +40% more expensive per 1 m2 than rental of LED screen
P3.9, what you can see on
our price list.
Accordingly, you may rent LED video screens
with bigger pitch (P3.9 or P4.8 or higher) which are
cheaper per m2
if your event setup considers big viewing distance between viewers and a screen. In such case,
you don't need to overpay for a small pitch as you don't need small and high-resolution screens.
And vice versa: if you require to accommodate high-quality video\photo\text content on relatively small screen (less than 5m width) without loss of pixels and quality, then it is always better to consider smaller pitch for your screen setup to ensure high quality picture.
